Hi! I'm Ryan, a member of Pumping Station: One in Chicago. I've been working on a CNC steampunk harp project for a year now. I've documented the project so far here:http://pumpingstationone.org/2014/01/cnc-steampunk-harp-part-1/
I've hit a bit of a snag. We have a 24x12 Epilog laser cutter at PS:One. But the harp sound board is a 49" long trapezoid. I'd like to lightly (emphasis on lightly, the sound board of a harp easily has 1000 lbs of tension on it) engrave a design on it. I've been unable to find either a laser cutter that large that can do engraving, or even a smaller one that has feedthrough capability. I've heard that your hackerspace may have a really large laser cutter, similar to the one at i3 Detroit.
Any cross-hackerspace collaboration here would be greatly appreciated! I'll actually be in the Madison area Thursday to Sunday. And I'm hoping Elizabeth will have the artwork done by then. She's using Adobe Illustrator, and we're happy to convert it into whatever format your software takes. I'm happy to chip in $$$ for this, and/or skill share, as needed. (I maintain the scanning electron microscope w/ EDX detector at PS:One. Anyone want a micrograph of somethiing? We could also do a talk on a trip we made to the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone.)
