There will be a talk at the University this Friday by the lead developer of the open source plotting library, matplotlib.

John D. Hunter, aka JDH, will be speaking on 'Matplotlib and the Python Ecosystem for Scientific Computing'. The event is free and open to the public, and is sponsored by the UW Lectures Committee, the Department of Medical Physics, the American Nuclear Society, and UW's The Hacker Within.
