Hi all- writing from the Green Bay area. working on a plan to establish a makerspace, community tool library, open studio, creative reUse center in a vacant school in this area. it is a large project with lots of related, overlapping aspects- was thinking the building would be a 'community center' of sorts, with membership levels etc as an actual business, profit for purpose, as in Benefit Corporation,- have seen most makerspaces use a nonprofit business model. anyone have experience with makerspaces that are for profit? also, for those that were involved in the launching of your 'business', anyone willing to provide suggestions or guidance, helpful hints? have been in contact with James Carlson, schoolfactory.org/bucketworks, the appleton DHMN, DigitalFertilizer and our local SCORE/Incubator/advance business center etc.. basically open to all support and advice you can offer! we have a chance to make this really cooll center for creative sustainable living, housing all these exciting opportunities- got the vision, now just need an action plan and the right team to drive it forward! thanks in advance for your thoughts. would love to work with you all to one day create some top notch events and partnerships! looking forward, always grateful! lori cuene lmcuene@aol.com
